Training Process

Phase 1: Puppy Selection & Raising

We start by choosing a puppy specifically for your needs and the best temperament match. Once the litter is born, we evaluate each puppy as they progress using known temperament tests. You will receive video updates, photos, and temperament notes throughout this process. Once we identify your puppy and pick the pup up from the breeder, we begin early socialization and imprint training right away.

Phase 2: Foundation Training & Socialization

House and crate training, name recognition and basic obedience foundations (sit, down, place, recall, car manners, and leash manners). Exposure to real world environments such as parks, stores, pet friendly restaurants, and different flooring/textures. Positive socialization with a wide variety of people, dogs, sounds, and environments. Calm handling and grooming tolerance. The goal in this phase is to create a confident, adaptable, and environmentally stable dog who enjoys working and can focus on you in the presence of distractions.

Phase 3: Intermediate & Public Access Training

At this stage, we begin building a reliable, mature working foundation. Advanced obedience (reliable off leash recall, off leash heel, automatic sits, and focus in high distraction areas). Public access readiness including entering stores, riding elevators, navigating airports, restaurants, crowds, and other busy environments, with in-depth food refusal training. Settle and down-stay behaviors for long duration calmness during classes, work, meals, and appointments. Polite greetings and neutral behavior around other people and animals. We also begin early task shaping, introducing the foundations of your custom service dog tasks.

Phase 4: Advanced Task Work & Customization

Here your dog will have mastered their public access skills, we can focus on task reliability and automatic response behaviors specific to your tasks. Each task is customized to your personal triggers and lifestyle routines. The goal is for your dog to respond naturally and intuitively in real time, not just upon command.

Phase 5: Training Program Test & Handler Transfer

Once your dog's training is complete, we perform a series of tests to ensure the dog has met our training standards. This confirms the team meets ADA standard expectations of behavior and reliability. Upon drop off, we stay in a nearby hotel for three days to teach you how to use your dog's tasks effectively, maintain obedience, and build communication. We practice transitioning into your daily environments and we will do a demonstration or information session with essential people or companies. Your dog comes home with a complete starter kit including collars, leashes, service dog vest, custom ID tags, training manual, service dog folder, grooming supplies, favorite toy, transition food, dog booties, treat bag, and poo baggies.
